History

The history of the festival dates back to 1995. It was at this time that 94.5 The Buzz, with a frequency of 107.5 FM, began to take over Houston rock radio. They made their debut with rock bands Bush, Our Lady Peace, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and The Nixons, punk rock bands Face to Face and No Use for a Name, rap rock band Phunk Junkeez and alternative rock/power pop singer, songwriter and musician Matthew Sweet.

Since 2001, the festival has been held twice a year, in April and October. Due to the cancellation of the 2008 fall show, the 2009 spring show was named Buzzfest XXII (instead of Buzzfest XXIII).

Cultural program

The live performances are, of course, the highlight of the festival. However, much more happens during the course of the two-day event! Local artists display their work in an open-air art exhibition near one of the stages. Houston craftsmen sell exclusive handmade or vintage items. There are also carnival games for children, such as bouncy castles and laser tag, an exciting tactical sports and entertainment game in real time and space.

The festival draws thousands of music lovers from across the state and beyond. Buzzfest provides a one-of-a-kind experience by combining live performances, shopping and attractions.
